DVD-ROM format DVD family is the most basic format.  It is the DVD-Video and DVD-Audio foundation.
 DVD-ROM data disc, which has a storage capacity of CD-ROM seven times the capacity, data transfer rate is the CD-ROM of nine times.  It has been widely used in the computer field.  DVD-ROM file system using UDF and ISO9660 standards, and compatible computer operating system, which in data access, multimedia, computer games are widely used.

 DVD-RW, DVD + RW, DVD-RAM, each with its own advantages in three formats.  - RW compatibility, DVD discs can be read out.  + RW technically, it's swinging groove phase modulation, seamless recording and defect management to be advanced so that the production process was the mother said than-RW simple, it only requires a single beam will be able to master recording.  But the discs are currently not recognized by the majority of drives read out.  - RAM Random Access can, but faster, and good compatibility of computer systems.  But it can only drive in RAM to use.  From a user's perspective, we want three formats can be unified.  Because it involves the format of the holders of interests, a unified format is not easy.

 To participate in the DVD Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Mitsubishi Chemical, Sony, Philips, Ricoh, Thomson and Yamaha Corporation.  DVD + R, DVD + RW specifications of the second version (4.7GB) is 6C in December 2002 formulation.
